Saturday Morning Baby Holding

I love Saturdays. I always have. The reason I love them so much has changed since becoming a father, but they still rock!

I used to like Saturdays because they were a time for me to catch up on sleep I had’t gotten during the week. I worked a lot (still do) so sleep was sometimes optional. Deadlines to worry about at the day job, freelance social media projects and even house hold stuff like laundry take a lot of energy and focus. Saturdays used to be a time to equal that work/sleep schedule out and give my brain time to decompress.

Now that I’ve become a father I love Saturdays because I get to hold my kid in the mornings when he’s content. After a night of “rest” he’s happy, alert and wonderfully expressive. I miss many of those smiles and pleasant baby coos during the week. I’m usually at work well before Mr. Dude is awake enough to interact in a pleasant and I don’t need my diaper changed right now kind of way.

The “normal” Wesley I see is a I’m sleepy but don’t want to sleep baby cry. I miss my Saturday morning sleep-ins, but wouldn’t trade this time with my boy to get them back. He’s worth losing sleep over.
