Thanks for the rocky start. I hope this means you’ve got some seriously good stuff waiting for me later on in the year. Mr. Dude was so sick he missed his first two days of school (day-care) and it was so cold outside they closed down for what would have been his third and fourth days. SkyWaitress spent hours waiting on delayed flights because of the weather and I got a pretty gnarly cold that knocked me out last week.

You may already know this, but I don’t do new years resolutions. I’m not really great at them. Goals have been set in previous years, but have been all but forgotten by June. I don’t take goal setting lightly so I’m always overshooting (like many) when setting them. This often over used quote comes to mind when I set goals of any sort:

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
― Norman Vincent Peale

I missed blogging some great stories last year because of time. Don’t be surprised if I post a few things from 2014 in 2015 because I still feel like they need to be shared. Trips to the apple orchard, corn maze and so on. Those were some fun times that are now just memories in my head and images on my hard drive.

Mr. Dude has changed so much. He was less than a year old when 2014 began and now he’s closing in on two! He’s walking, and talking and playing (mostly) well with others. I’m super happy about that. This kid seriously amazes me. I see so much of myself and my wife in him. He’s cool.

Last year was rough on a personal, national and global scale. We lost some good people. We saw much injustice. I have no doubt there will be awful things happening this year like there was last. They already have internationally and its not even two weeks into 2015 yet!

I’m hopeful that this year will be better for us. The family has a new routine. We’ve got some fun trips planned. And my progress through school continues at a slower pace than I’d like, but what can ya do? I can only handle two classes a semester right now. Time marches on and I’m closer to graduation than I was last semester.

Here’s hoping 2015 is better than 2014.

Sincerely,
– Joel
