Let’s be clear. I’ve not seen all the Marvel movies yet. I know I’m not the only one in this boat because there are currently 21 of them. Who has time for that? Not most parents. Ha!
If you are a parent who’s seen them all I am in no way judging you for having done so. I don’t miss new Doctor Who or Star Trek when they come out.
Real heroes. Not actual size. Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp
Ant-Man & The Wasp is an entertaining comic film that I’d love to see again once I catch up on the Marvel Universe movies. Coming into it cold was a bit confusing at first. Ant-Man & The Wasp is directly tied to the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War and the original Ant-Man movie (which I have also not yet seen.)
There are jokes and plot points in this movie that stem from those. I was able to feel caught up a few minutes in when some things were explained in overall story structure and character dialog. All that being said… I loved this movie.
Paul Rudd will forever be Mike in the sitcom Friends arguing with Phoebe about her recent name change to me. Seeing him play a completely different character was pretty amazing. No spoilers, but there is a spot in the movie where he… becomes someone else for a bit and I was really impressed with how well he played it. Seeing the father-daughter dynamic between Paul Rudd and Abby Ryder Fortson was both sweet and fun. They made a great team.
The special effects in this movie were pretty amazing. There are a few parts that reminded me of the old Honey I Shrunk The Kids movies. They were super cheesy and yet wildly entertaining.
Evangeline Lilly plays a believable super-hero not love-struck because of a boy. I really like that. I’m all about strong and independent women. Especially ones who can protect themselves and others without backing down.
Michael Peña shines in a section of the movie involving “truth serum.”
And Hannah John-Kamen might just be playing my new favorite Marvel villain.
Stick around for the bonus scene at the end and make sure you watch Avengers: Infinity War or it won’t make any sense. Unless you read spoilers like I did because I’ve not yet seen that one either. Having seen Ant-Man & The Wasp though I’ve now put catching up on these Marvel movies at the top of my list.
