Amerika, I’m Disappointed In You…

I believed better of Amerika back in 2024. I didn't love Harris as a candidate, but knew then (and now) that she was the far better choice to Trump. The shock has turned into fear, then numbness, and now it is birthing rage.

This week is the week the Dad 2.0 Summit meets in New Orleans, LA for the second time. I am so excited about it I can hardly wait. I look forward to attending the conference every year. Why? The speakers are cool (even if often sports-focused), the brands are fun (looking at you, Dove Men+Care, LEGO, Best Buy & KIA), the outings are epic, and I get to spend time with other guys who understand me.

Dad bloggers are a unique breed. We’re varied in socioeconomic terms, cover the religious and political beliefs spectrum, and are growing in our diversity. We, however, all understand what it is to work hard to keep our families together, raise our children for a better future, and discuss our issues online and publicly for all to see.

Blogging about life takes an open honesty that a lot of people don’t like to share online. Life’s struggles, victories, and losses fill out lives and our feeds daily. It is great to re-connect and spend some time in real life. There is something about that in person time that is so much better than community through our screens.

I’ll be there this week and have a few loose plans outside of the conference. I want to visit breweries like Brieux Carré Brewing Co., Urban South BreweryParleaux Beer Lab, & Wayward Owl Brewing Company. Cafe Du Monde is also a must every time I’m in town. Thier coffee is alright, but their beignets are amazing! Beignets are square pieces of dough, fried and covered with copious amounts of powdered sugar.

I’m not staying at the official conference hotel this time around. $199 is an amazing price for the Ritz Carlton, but I can’t swing it right now. A hostel walking distance from the hotel will be my home for a few days while in New Orleans. It’ll give me to see a new part of the city I’ve not visited yet.

Are you going to Dad 2.0 Summit 2018 and like local craft beer? Let’s hang out! I hear there is an unofficial conference bottle share.
