Miracle on 34th Street” (1947)

Directed by George Seaton

An elderly gentleman named Kris Kringle created a stir when he’s hired as Macy’s in-store Santa Claus for the holiday season.

I find this movie charming in many ways. The inquisitive little girl. The skeptical mother. The good hearted old man. The ambitious young man. The jokes, and references for both parents and children through-out the film, are clever and timeless.

The Macy’s Day Parade is still a fun thing to watch on TV in real life just like in the movie. We try to watch it LIVE every year, and almost every year, we forget and have to watch the replay. I also prefer this version to the various remakes of the film.

My wife loves the scene in it where the little girl speaks Dutch the Santa and he speaks back. SkyWaitress says the little girl has a Rotterdam accent and translates it in real-time every year because I don’t speak Dutch and it’s not subtitled in the movie.

I’ve never been able to make up my mind about the ending of this movie. Is he the real Santa or does he simply think he is the real deal? What do you think?
