National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (1989)

Directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik

This holiday season, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) vows his clan will enjoy “the most fun-filled family Christmas ever.” Before anyone can stop him, there will be 25,000 lights on the roof, and exploding turkey on the dining room table, and a SWAT team taking siege outside. A festive supporting cast helps bring to life a John Huges script full of wit, heart, and sheer goofiness.

I wasn’t aware of this film being part of the National Lampoon series of movies when I first saw it. It stands well on its own. The laughs are plentiful and many of my favorite memes have spawned from this film. My understanding of the jokes has changed over years (going from a kid to an adult), but I still laugh every single time I watch this movie. I hope you do too.
