I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of time-capsules. As a kid I participated in a few time-capsules at various elementary schools I attended. I wrote letters to my future self or future students to be read in the 2000s. I imagined those letters being read in a time of flying cars and space travel for the every day person. That was over 20 years ago now. I’m still waiting for those things, but perhaps one day.

Would you like to participate in an online time capsule with me?  My son will be born any day now and I’ve started a website where friends, family and my readers can write a letter to a future him. The 21 year old Wesley in 2034 to be exact. I brewed a beer with a friend to celebrate Wesley’s arrival and once he’s 21 I plans on drinking a bottle of it with him. In addition to drinking that bottle with him I’d like to share a time capsule of the present.

Abigail and I have people in our lives now that may sadly not be here in 20 years. We’ll have made new friends, long since graduated from college and may even be living in another country. Who knows? We may not have those flying cars in 2034, but there may realistically be a human colony on MarsWe would like to give this gift to our son. A picture of what the world was like around the time he was born. A picture of how many people care about him and love him already without him having even shown up yet or been around for very long!
