“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” Announced

If you are the parent of a child (of basically any age) you’ve probably seen “The Super Mario Bros Movie” a bazillion times since it was released in theaters in 2023. The movie made $1.3 billion so we all knew another movie had to be in the works. The original was (and still is) a fun romp through the world of the Super Mario Bros. The special effects, storyline, and music were top notch. I even purchased a double vinyl soundtrack set from iam8bit that I still listen to fairly regularly.

Enter the sequel “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” that was recently announced. This film will again be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. It has been announced that the sequel will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo with a worldwide release by Universal Pictures.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score. Perhaps this means I’ll be getting a second double vinyl release in the future?

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to hit theaters in Friday, April 3, 2026. The official website is sparse on details as of now, but can be found at https://www.thesupermariogalaxymovie.com.
