I started writing this series the morning I got an email from my son’s school issuing a notice saying that the schools would be closed for at least two weeks (but likely longer) due to the current Covid-19 outbreak. Many parents are in the same spot. This is why I’m doing this.

Each day I’ll share a simple activity that you can do with your kids that will help pass the time. Sometimes these with be educational. Sometimes these activities will be family projects. Sometimes they will simply be entertainment options.

If you want to add some ideas to the list please do so in the comments.

You can see the full list of activities (updated daily through-out the 30 day series) at DaddysGrounded.com/30days/

Day Ten: Have a Movie Night!

Everyone has a favorite movie. Some have several. Why not have a movie night with the family? Even better, have a series of movie-nights. Let each member of the family pick out a movie they enjoy and watch it.

But first! Consider making some carmel corn as a snack to go with your night.

There are so many streaming services out there with great family movies. Here are a few of my favorites based on the service:

Netflix

Farmageddon
Space Jam
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The Angry Birds Movie 2
Woody Woodpecker

Disney+

Everyone knows Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic, & Pixar populate the service. I’m a fan of the Disney Classics though. Here are a few I really love.

The Great Mouse Detective
The Lion King
The Many Adventures of Winnie The Poo
The Rescuers Down Under
The Sword And The Stone

Hulu

Most people know about the TV shows, fancy add-ons, live sports, or even the not-for-younger-viewers content on Hulu. People don’t always think about the family movies on the service. Here are a few of my favorites.

Chicken Run
Ugly Dolls
Monsters vs Aliens
Sherlock Gnomes
A Boy Named Charlie Brown

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon is more than two-day shipping on impulse buys and season-pass buying TV shows. They have a vast collection of streamable content for families too. Here are a couple of examples:

The Adventures of Tintin
Wonder Park
Sherlock Gnomes
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Rock-A-Doodle

Movies Anywhere

Movies Anywhere has partnered with iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Fandango, and others to allow your movies to be streamable in one place. They often have specials where you can earn free movies just by attaching each of these external services. You can also often use the digital codes that come with your DVD or Blu-ray movie purchases on the Movies Anywhere service.

Spies in Disguise
Trolls
Onward
Hook
Newsies

What streaming services do you have? Have any favorite movies you can’t get enough of on them? Let me know in the comments.
