Disclosure: I’ve joined the Netflix #StreamTeam and have been compensated for writing this post.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I’m a fan of all of the candy, apple orchards, corn mazes, haunted houses and most importantly scary movies. Netflix has an impressive list of frightening movies this time of year. It can sometimes be tricky to know what’s great and what’s just okay based on a movie’s rating. I’m here to share my list of must-see Halloween flicks now streaming on Netflix. They are in alphabetical order and range from the silent era, to foreign language zombies, to modern day slashers and much in between. These are movies for parents and older teens, they are not meant for a younger viewing audience. Watch quickly, though, not all of these will still be on the streaming service once November 1, 2015, rolls around.

100 Bloody Acres (2012) 1h 30m [NR]

A good old teen, slasher horror movie, Australian style.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) 1h 17m [NR]

A 1920’s silent scary movie. The cinematography is beautiful and it’s fascinating to see horror from a nearly hundred-year-old perspective.

Children of the Corn (1984) 1h 32m [R]

Creepy children rule a town in the classic adaptation of Steven King’s book.

Circle (2015) 1h 26m [NR]

A circle of strangers have to decide who deserves to live and who deserves to die. This film relies completely on psychological suspense and doesn’t need any fancy sets or effects to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Dead Silence (2007) 1h 29m [UR]

Dolls are always scary, and this dummy is no exception.

Dead Snow (2009) 1h 31m [NR]

This Norwegian horror film is all about a group of co-eds heading out into the wilderness to spend a nice fun weekend at a cabin. A hoard of zombie Nazis left over from WWII are of course woken up from their sleep and cause all sorts of mayhem.

Devil (2010) 1h 20m [PG-13]

Five people trapped in an elevator and one of them is the devil. But who?

Haunter (2013) 1h 37m [NR]

A fascinating twist on a ghost story. What happens when it’s the ghost who is being haunted?

Kill Zombie! (2011) 1h 25m [NR]

A zombie movie with a sense of humor. Sort of a Dutch Shawn of the Dead.

This movie is one that will scare you without ever seeing a thing.

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994) 1h 52m [R]

A devil child wreaks havoc on the life of a diplomat.

A mother and her two children are being haunted and they can’t leave the house to escape.

Rosemary’s Baby (1968) 2h 16m [R]

Satanism and pregnancy make a terrifying combination. There’s a reason this is a classic.

Gory and suspenseful. This used to be our Halloween tradition to see a new one every year as they came out in theaters. The series is finished and you can watch most of it on Netflix.

Scary Movie 3 (2003) 1h 24m [PG-13]

If you’re a fan of scary movies and need a laugh you’ll love this genre spoof.

A true classic murder mystery. The story is made great by a brilliant cast including the ever versatile Johnny Depp.
