Today is one of those special days. Not because anything monumental happened in our lives today. It is because of a fun little bit of math about what happened a few years ago.

Wes turned 2,018 days old today. And if you’re reading this at some point down the road… it also happened to be the year 2018. Fun right?!

Today represents a lot of things. Not the least of which is the drastic set of changes that have happened in the lives of my wife and I since he was born.

Parenting is all about learning. It is about being willing to accept help when you need it and advice when you don’t know what to do.

People joke all the time about kids not coming with a user manual. It is the truth though. Man, that would be such a nice book to have.

Wesley has and continues to teach me new things every day. He has his own thoughts, and dreams. He loves things I don’t and fears things I don’t. We deal with life’s ups and downs together: like the time he had that febrile seizure.

He and I are very different people. He’s way more outgoing than I am. I don’t mind bugs so much. They horrify him.

He has a lot to learn. What person doesn’t?

I’m so proud of him.

I still go back to the Dear Son, post I wrote him before he was born and read it sometimes.

I hope the best for him in his future and am so happy to have spent this time with him so far. I wonder what he’ll do. If he’ll get married and how I’ll relate to his future spouse. I’ve found a real teammate in Abigail. I hope he finds that sort of complimentary person for himself too.

I love you, Wesley. Let’s keep walking into the future together (with MomMom and Theo too.)
