This past weekend I was able to have a guys night out (Dadchelor Party) in celebration of my soon to be born son. I had representatives from four different social circles there: a couple of friends from work, family, a couple guys from the dance group Abigail is in and a friend I’ve had since jr. high. Everyone seemed to enjoy each other’s company. And I don’t mean just that kind of awkward getting along one does at parties and then is happy to leave. I’m talking about the kind of getting along awesome people do when they meet other awesome people. They rocked it!

It has been a VERY LONG time since I was able to just go out with a group of guys and hang out. Abigail and I go out with friends, but there is something to be said about the bonding that a group of guys does over food, beers & conversation. Everyone gathered around 8 p.m. and over the next 5 hours we ate, made jokes, shared stories and closed the restaurant down. Subjects ranging from movies, jobs, education, sex, travel, beer and more were covered. I even did my first spit take with beer coming out my nose. It was not pleasant, but a truly memorable moment.

We left the restaurant at 1:30 a.m. and most everyone went home. My brother-in-law and my buddy Cecil came back to my place. That is when we broke out the good stuff brought up from Indianapolis as a gift from Cecil:

The night was exactly what I wanted. It was full of laughs, drinks and stories. Wesley was even kind enough to not give any sign of labor so I could really mostly relax and enjoy myself.  I can’t wait to do this again, even if it isn’t for a while. I hear kids do take over when they arrive.

  1. Don’t you love that being a grown up means your different circles of friends can come together and have a blast. It’s like a Venn Diagram of your life;) Can’t wait to hear about the baby’s arrival soon.

  2. Thats the way to celebrate! One of the best parts of being a dad is getting to enjoy the world of being a guy, an aged scotch and a cigar one night, and then getting to embrace fatherhood, making goo-goo noises and giving raspberries to your baby as they start to make out faces and develop their personality. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
