Holiday Movies We Watch (Most) Every Christmas Season (1/31)

Holiday Movie Must Watch (1/31) - "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993)

Directed by Henry Selick
Written by Tim Burton

Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Pumpkin King Jack Skellington longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere.

Our family watched this on Halloween every year. It’s the holiday season opener for us. The marketing for it attached Tim Burton’s name and almost all but ignored the directing genius Henry Selick’s work on the picture. Even as a fan of this movie for years I only JUST THIS YEAR found out that Tim Burton didn’t direct it. Even worse, I found this out while doing a virtual press junket for Netflix’s “Wendell & Wild” when its director (Henry Selick) spoke about his work in Hollywood that included The Nightmare Before Christmas.

"The Nightmare Before Christmas"
Jack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion.
