30 Days of Activities At Home With The Kids [Day Six]

I started writing this series the morning I got an email from my son’s school issuing a notice saying that the schools would be closed for at least two weeks (but likely longer) due to the current Covid-19 outbreak. Many parents are in the same spot. This is why I’m doing this.

Each day I’ll share a simple activity that you can do with your kids that will help pass the time. Sometimes these with be educational. Sometimes these activities will be family projects. Sometimes they will simply be entertainment options.

If you want to add some ideas to the list please do so in the comments.

You can see the full list of activities (updated daily through-out the 30 day series) at DaddysGrounded.com/30days/

Day Six: Compliment Jar

We all know what a swear jar is used for in the office. Or what a tip jar is used for at the coffee shop. So why not make a Compliment Jar for home use?

The first thing to decide is what jar to use. There are so many jars around a typical household if you look hard enough. Food, for example, offers a whole list of items sold in jars: pickles, peppers, jellies, jams, salsa, queso, spaghetti sauce, and so on. For us a food jar made a lot of sense.

My wife loves Pace Picante Medium Salsa. She loves eating it with sour cream and chips as a snack or part of a meal. If they served it at theaters I’m convinced she’d buy it instead of popcorn.

All you need is:

  1. A Jar (a box can be used in a pinch)
  2. Paper (multicolor paper is best, but notebook or printer paper works too)
  3. Scissors
  4. Writing Utensils (pens, crayons, pencils, markers, etc.)

Quick Project Instructions:

  • Empty and clean out the container.
  • Decorate it
  • Fill it with compliments!

Have you done this at home? Share your creations (and compliments if you want) in the comments!
